E-Governance Industry & Economy - Events Call for digital land information system Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Feb. 14 THE two-day national symposium on `Contemporary trends in cadastral surveys and maintenance of land records' has called for preparation of an integrated, digital and transparent `Land Information System' (LIS), which is secure and accessible for all. "This system will ultimately lead to a National Land Registry and Title Assurance System at a later stage," the symposium said in its list of recommendations submitted to the Union Government. The symposium, attended by revenue officials from all over the country, has recommended that the Government should standardise the procedures. The meeting felt that the LIS should be made self-sustaining. Some members wanted that funds accrued through the system should be invested back in the system for its sustenance and upgradation. The Union Government should come out with a set of guidelines to be followed by various States in respect of information and technology architecture and software standards, keeping in view the proposed National Spatial data Infrastructure and growing e-governance initiatives. "The symposium also called for setting up of Institute for Land Information Management," Mr Vinod K Agarwal, Commissioner of Survey, Settlements and Land Records, told Business Line. "The Union Government should support and encourage experimentation by various States to arrive at a technology taking into account cost, time, replicability, maintainability and desired level of accuracy," the meeting felt.
