Bangalore , Feb. 9

RELIANCE Industries has unveiled a major expansion plan for Karnataka, which includes setting up petrol stations, power plants and laying of 250 km of gas pipeline.

Announcing the Reliance game-plan after launching the mobile prepaid scheme, the Company President for Karnataka, Mr Anant Ravi, told presspersons that around 22 petrol stations will be set up in the State. However, the company plans to skip Bangalore because of high costs involved in land acquisition.

Of the 3,500-km of gas pipeline being planned countrywide, a 250-km long pipeline will be laid to connect Goa and Kakinada to supply gas. The pipeline will also connect Chennai-Bangalore to supply gas to the power projects in Karnataka. "We also plan to set up power projects and get into distribution," he said. He added the company had offered gas for the Bidadi power plant .
