A DIAMOND indicator — Kimberlite body has been discovered by Geologists of the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) in Kalyandurg taluk of Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh.

The public sector unit NMDC has been granted reconnaissance permit for diamond exploration over 2300 sq km area in the Anantapur district. During its field surveys recently, Geologists found the kimberlite pipes, which is considered the parent material for diamond.

According to NMDC sources, apart from confirmation by in-house laboratory tests, Dr John W. Bristow, an international diamond consultant to the Corporation had also confirmed the finding during his visit to the area recently.

The find has been described as preliminary, establishing the prospects of the existence of the precious stone.
