Eli Lilly reduces sepsis drug price

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Feb. 5

ELI Lilly & Company (India) has reduced the price of Xigris, a drug used to treat sepsis, commonly known as blood poisoning.

Dr R.S. Nadig, Medical Director, Eli Lilly said, "More people die from sepsis than from breast or colon cancer and the challenge is to create awareness levels among general patients and sensitise the medical fraternity towards the disease. Eli Lilly took the initiative with the launch of Xigris - the only drug to combat sepsis. Today, we are pleased to pass on the benefit of reduced customs duty by decreasing the price of Xigris. The average cost of treatment would come down by about 40 per cent with this reduction in customs duty."
