AP gets Rs 20 cr for rural water projects

THE Union Ministry of Rural Development has released Rs 20.36 crore to Andhra Pradesh as the Centre's share in the Prime Minister's programmes for installation of one lakh hand-pumps in water scarce rural areas and revival of one lakh traditional sources of drinking water supply.
The Centre has granted Rs 9.38 crore to set up 3,000 hand-pumps in water scarcity areas and Rs 10.98 crore for revival of 8,000 traditional sources of water. The amount released under this sanction is 90 per cent of the cost of the scheme. The balance has to be borne by the community or panchayats.
The Ministry has released Rs 2 crore each towards final instalment for providing safe drinking water to brackish habitations in Konaseema area of East Godavari district and fluoride affected habitations in Kurnool district under the sub-mission projects, according to an official release here.
