Tata Elxsi sees big jump in royalty income

Vishwanath Kulkarni

Bangalore , Jan. 28

TATA Elxsi, the product design arm of the Tata Group, said on Wednesday that an increase in turnkey product development projects and royalty revenues would drive its growth over the next few years.

Mr Madhukar Dev, CEO, Tata Elxsi, said the company was witnessing a significant traction in turnkey product development projects, especially in areas such as Internet telephony, video conferencing, multimedia players, among others.

The company has signed several turnkey projects over the last few months and the pipeline for such projects was healthy, he added.

The company expects a quantum jump in royalty revenues for its intellectual property. Royalty revenues are likely to account for 20 per cent of its earnings in the next six quarters, as against 3 per cent to 4 per cent at present, he added.

The companyexpects to add 200 people immediately to its headcount of 1,100, Mr Dev said.

However, finding the right kind of skill sets, especially in areas of networking and real time operating systems has become a major issue for the company, he said.

Tata Elxsi also expects a major growth for its division Visual Computing Labs (VCL) in the coming years.

It expects to sign a couple of major deals; it has already done some pilots for Hollywood films.
