Change of guard at CIL, ECL

Our Bureau

Kolkata , Jan. 28

IN a quiet move, the Union Ministry of Coal and Mines has effected a minor change in the hierarchy of Coal India Ltd (CIL) and its ailing subsidiary, Eastern Coalfields Ltd (ECL).

The CIL Director (Technical), Mr A. Kalam, has been appointed as Chairman & Managing Director of ECL to replace Mr M.K. Sinha, while Mr Sinha has been asked to join as Director (Technical) of CIL.

The swapping of these positions is said to be routine in nature, but informed sources indicate that this has been done at the instance of the Union Minister of Steel and Mines, Ms Mamta Banerjee.

Mr Kalam is reported to have taken over the charge as CMD of ECL, while Mr Sinha has gone on sick leave.
