Outlook Logistics - Airlines Boeing sees huge demand for new aircraft Our Bureau

New Delhi , Jan. 28 THE US-based aircraft manufacturing major, Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said on Wednesday that it was seeing a huge demand for its soon-to-be-ready 7E7 aircraft from airlines in Asia. Speaking to newspersons, Dr Dinesh A. Keskar, Senior Vice-President (Sales), and President, Boeing Aircraft Trading, said that the company has been working with 50 airlines around the world to define the requirements for the new aircraft. Boeing plans to offer the new aircraft to airlines late this year or early next year and plans to start assembly in 2006. The first flight is planned in 2007 and certification and entry into service are planned for 2008. The new aircraft will create new non-stop routes, including offering airlines in India the option of operating directly between Chennai and New York or Mumbai and Boston. The 7E7 family of aircraft will carry 200-250 passengers on flights up to 8,300 nautical miles. Boeing has forecast a need for 2,000-3,000 airplanes in the 7E7's market segment over the next 20 years.
