Events Leather show on `Spirit of 60s' Our Bureau
Chennai , Jan. 28 "SPIRIT of the 60s" is the theme for the annual leather show in Chennai scheduled for February 1. The event will showcase the work of 16 firms that have designed garment, shoes and accessories in keeping with the theme. Mr Md. Sadiq, a scientist at Central Leather Research Institute, said short skirts and shoes that are square or pointed are popular representations of the `Spirit of 60s'. He added that black, white and neon colours would be commonly used. The fashion show aims to showcase design capabilities of top leather product firms such as Tata International and Farida Shoes. Mr Sadiq said the companies have designed products largely for business in the autumn-winter season in western markets. The annual theme is taken from the fashion forecasts in western markets, and designers in Indian companies work on individual products that are displayed. The fashion show will "showcase the best of India," said Mr Sateesh Jadhav, the convener of the show. At a press conference today, Mr Jadhav said Ms Lubna Adams would direct the show that would feature models such as Kelly Dorji and Netra Raghuraman. The show would also feature a performance by Shiamak Davar and his troupe of jazz dancers. The annual leather fashion show coincides with the International Leather Fair in Chennai that would start on January 31.
