Power Corporate - Interview We may look at joint venture partners, says Anil Ambani Balaji C. Mouli
Reliance has rarely taken a joint venture partner in its business ventures. The first exception was made in the case of the 4000 MW Hirma project where it teamed up with Mirant Corporation, US. Would Reliance rope in a partner to set up this power plant in Uttar Pradesh or do it on its own? As an exception we may look at joint venture partners. We are competent to set up the generation capacity on our own. Would you look at acquiring National Thermal Power Corporation if it were divested to a strategic partner? There is no Indian company that can buy NTPC as a whole. It has a generation asset of 20,000 MW. The question is, however, hypothetical. It all depends on the structuring of the deal, etc. The power market is large enough to accommodate several players. Is Reliance looking at acquiring further distribution zones? We are always on the look out for good business deals. We participate in mostly all tenders...
