Politics Government - Politics Cabinet for LS dissolution on February 6 Our Bureau
New Delhi , Jan. 27 THE Union Cabinet on Tuesday decided to recommend dissolution of the Lok Sabha on February 6, paving the way for early general elections. "The Cabinet on Tuesday decided to advise the President to dissolve the 13th Lok Sabha on February 6, 2004," the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Ms Sushma Swaraj, told newspersons here after the Cabinet meeting. The Government will present the vote-on-account (interim budget) for four months to the Parliament on February 3 and the Lok Sabha will be dissolved after Parliament passes the proposals. The Railway Ministry will present its vote-on-account on January 30. The Cabinet had earlier cleared the agenda for the short session of Parliament starting January 29. As the ruling BJP-led coalition has decided to go in for early elections, the Budget, as also the Railway Budget, will be presented by the new Government after the Lok Sabha is reconstituted. The vote-on-account will enable the Government to continue to draw from the Consolidated Fund of India after March 31. The Prime Minister, Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee, met the President, Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, after the meeting and apprised him of the Cabinet decision, Ms Swaraj said.
