Oracle India, along with its strategic partners including TCS, NIC and CMC engaged in e-governance projects with 28 State Governments, has begun to work on nine new e-governance projects in the year 2003.

The Managing Director of Oracle India, Mr Shekhar Dasgupta, in a statement said "we are drawing from our global experiences, having been involved in over 2000 e-Governance projects around the world, to support the e-governance initiatives in India."

Oracle India and partners would deploy Oracle technologies to support the IT projects of Department of Family and Child Welfare, Government of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu Urban Development Project, Kandla Port Trust, Mumbai Port Trust, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, Tamil Nadu State Electricity Board, East Central Railway, Department of Commercial Taxes, Government of Assam and Department of Sales Tax, Government of Punjab.

Detailing various e-governance projects where Oracle applications have helped Governments, the company maintained that the eSeva project of Andhra Pradesh, which provides new Government to consumer services, handles a little over one million transactions per month.

The Director of eSeva project, Mr Phani Kumar, said "we are using Oracle database and Oracle Application Server since 1999 for the eSeva portal. Oracle has provided us with a scalable application that handles over one million transactions per month."

In yet another e-governance project - eCops, the Andhra Pradesh Government uses the Oracle database technology to check crimes and network police stations online for more effective law and order management.
