Telecommunications BPL Mobile plans Rs 120-cr investment to widen coverage in Kerala Our Bureau
Kochi , Jan. 19 BPL Mobile had earmarked investments of over Rs 120 crore on network expansion, infrastructure, brand and marketing as part of enhancing coverage and capacity across the State. The company is also rolling out the Intelligent Network Platform with Camel Phase II for the pre-paid product by the end of January to enable it to offer new product features and service flexibility to maintain product edge in the marketplace, said Mr K.A. Mohamed Saleem, COO (Kerala). On the network front, the company is installing 22 new cell sites to reach 150 by January 31 and 200 sites by the middle of April. The towns that will be covered soon are Kanhangad in Kasargode; Melechowwa, Koothuparambu, Payyannur, and Madayipara in Kannur; Payyoli, Kuttiyadi, and Nadapuram in Kozhikode; Parappanangadi and Puthanathani in Malappuram; Koottanad and Changarakulam in Palakkad; Choondal and Moonupeedika in Thrissur; AIMS, Njarakkal and Kaladi in Kochi; Ettumanur and Vaikkom in Kottayam; and Kovalam and Poojappura in Thiruvananthapuram district. Mr R. Suresh Kumar, Deputy Chief Operating Officer, said that BPL Mobile has been rated the best mobile phone service in the country in a study conducted by the International Data Corporation across GSM & CDMA service providers. The IDC survey also revealed that 70 per cent of the respondents considered network quality important and 29 per cent termed it the single most important criterion for choosing a mobile service provider.
