Announcements TVS plans to roll out electric three-wheeler Neha Kaushik
New Delhi , Jan. 16 TWO-WHEELER maker TVS Motor Company intends to roll out an electric-powered three-wheeler in the next 24 months, a senior company official has said. The concept electric vehicle is also being showcased at the ongoing Auto Expo in the Capital. The vehicle, with a 48-V battery, has a range of 100 km per charge with a charging time of eight hours. "However, the requisite regulations for electric vehicles need to be in place before the vehicle can be rolled out," Mr Harish K., Vice-President (Marketing), TVS Motor Company, said. Meanwhile, the company expects to launch its conventional three-wheelers in the next 12-15 months. The launch of the three-wheelers is expected to provide a boost to the company's overall exports as well. Though declining to comment on the export potential of the three-wheelers, Mr Harish said TVS is targeting to end this year with exports of about 25,000 two-wheelers, and expects to almost double the figure to about 45,000 units in the next financial year. TVS had exported 14,000 vehicles last year. "But despite the growth, we do not expect exports to account for more than 2-3 per cent of our sales," he said. TVS expects to end this year with sales of 1.15 million units and is targeting to ink sales of 1.4 million vehicles by 2005-06, out of which the newly launched Centra bike should account for about 300,000 units.
