Shipping Koodankulam port becomes operational Our Correspondent
Madurai , Jan. 16 A MINI port at the Koodankulam nuclear power project site, the first port to come up in the Tirunelveli district, near here, became operational from January 14. The port has been established to receive barges carrying overdimensional equipments for light water reactors from ships anchored at a distance of one-and-a-half km away. Hitherto the materials had to be brought via road from Tuticorin, risking damage during transportation. Talks have been going on between India and Russia to get two more reactors for Koodankulam, which are at an advanced stage, he added.
