Research & Development IIT-KGP takes up R&D in mission-oriented projects Our Bureau
Kolkata , Jan. 14 THE Department of Metallurgical & Materials Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (IIT-KGP) has taken up sponsored research & development (R&D) work in 13 mission-oriented projects. The total sponsorship money generated by the department on this score stands at Rs 14.7 crore, Prof S.K. Dubey, Director of IIT-KGP, said at a function held in Kharagpur recently. Prof Dubey, who was inaugurating COMPOSIT-2004, an All-India Annual Students' Congress, said there were 37 ongoing projects taken up by the Department of Metallurgical & Materials Engineering. The focus in the days ahead would be on sponsored and consultancy projects. Speaking on the occasion, Prof P. Rodriguez of IIT Chennai, and a former Director of the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, highlighted the importance and scope in the sphere of metallurgy and materials and urged students to delve deep into the subject. Several events were held in IIT-KGP to highlight the opportunities in the arena of metallurgical and materials engineering.
