Mumbai Jan. 12

RELIANCE'S refinery at Jamnagar has been ranked as best in Shell Benchmarking for the third consecutive year under the category of `Energy and Loss' performance from amongst 50 refineries worldwide.

According to a company press release, the refinery has been able to consistently lower the Energy and Loss Index (CEL) during the last three years, bringing it down from 95.6 CEL Index in 2000 to 88.7 CEL Index last year.

Reliance's rating in the Shell Benchmarking was also at the top in the areas of operating cost, manpower cost, maintenance cost and plant utilisation.

Reliance's 27 million tonne capacity Jamnagar refinery accounts for 24 per cent of India's refining capacity and is the world's largest grassroots refinery, the release said.
