Customs, excise mop-up rises 9.3 pc in Apr-Dec

CUSTOMS and excise collections in the first nine months of the current fiscal increased by 9.3 per cent to Rs 99,380.86 crore as compared to mobilisation of Rs 90,942.61 crore achieved in the same period during the previous year.

The excise and customs collections up to December 31, 2003 represents over 68 per cent of the Budget estimate of Rs 1,45,476 crore that has been fixed for 2003-04. While excise collections during April-December 2003 stood at Rs 63,145.89 crore (Rs 57,790.25 crore), the customs collections in the same period stood at Rs 36, 234.97 crore (Rs 36, 203.18 crore).
