Guidelines for libraries

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Bureau of India Standards (BIS) has published its guidelines for libraries.
Announcing this, an official spokesman said here that the BIS has so far published 17,500 Indian standards relating to various services.
In the present instance, they deal with guidelines for services provided by a public library to its customers and cover objectives of the institution of public libraries, their governance, guidelines on selection, acquisition and maintenance of reading material and rules for library services offered.
A model Public Libraries Act is also available as Annexure A to the Standard. It would be useful to various libraries as well as to organisations and statutory authorities in the field.
