Tala transmission project achieves financial closure

Our Bureau

Mumbai , Jan. 9

THE 1,200-km Tala power transmission project, being executed by Powerlinks Transmission Ltd, a joint venture between Power Grid Corporation and Tata Power, has achieved financial closure.

The inter-state project, which will set up 400 kv power transmission lines over a distance of 1,200 km from the 1,020 MW Tala Hydro-electric project in Bhutan up to Delhi, will cost Rs 1,220 crore.

The Washington-based Industrial Development Finance Company and State Bank of India are lender to the project that has a debt to equity ratio of 70:30. The lenders will finance 70 per cent of the estimated project cost in the form of a non-recourse term loan, a news release said here today.

The project will help transmit power from the eastern grid to the power deficit northern grid. Tata Power was selected to partner PGCIL in the project through an international bidding process.
