WORK on the Hudco assisted drinking water project for the Vypeen islands would be completed and commissioned by December, according to Mr M.A. Kuttappan, Minister for SC/ST Welfare.
Land acquisition for the project would be completed and it would be handed over to the Water Authority by January 31, he said in an official press release here.
As part of the laying of pipes to the Vypeen island, Rs 60 lakh would be paid to the railways, national highway authority and the public works department, he said.
He said that under the Hudco project 10 million litre per day of drinking water would be taken to Vypeen through a new pipeline of 800 mm from the main pipeline of 1,050 mm coming to Ernakulam from Pukkattupady junction.
From the storage tank of 2.5 million litres of drinking water at Vaduthala, water would be pumped using 60 HP pump to the five million capacity tank at Puthuvypeen, he said.
