A Creative foray into kids movies

Latha Venkatraman

Mumbai , Jan. 1

CREATIVE Eye Ltd (CEL), which is making a foray into film production, has scheduled the release of its first film Aabra Ka Daabra for April-May 2004.

The shooting of Aabra Ka Daabra, a 3D Plus technology-based film for children, has been completed and has gone into post-production, a company official said. The delayed release is to capture children as audience when schools in India close for summer vacation from mid-April.

This technology, which is owned jointly by Creative Eye and FX Factory, does not necessitate changes in the screen or lens as required in some of the earlier 3D films. This technology can also be used for 3D television programmes that can be viewed on analog sets, the company official said.

Currently, Creative Eye is in talks with distributors, including Yash Raj Films and Shringar Films. "There is a good interest in this film," the official said.

Creative Eye, known for its mythological serials, is looking at entering into the genre of social drama, thriller and comedy serials for satellite channels - Zee, Star and Sony. "We have had mythologicals on these channels as well as on Sahara Manoranjan. But now we are ready with other kinds of programming genre for these channels," the official said.

The company, which was off Doordarshan for a short period after it suffered losses, is slated to get back on to the DDplatform with six programmes, again moving away from mythological serials to social dramas.

According to the company officials, margins on television programmes are improving, prompting companies such as Creative to realign its portfolio with a different programming mix.

All of these plans, however, would only reflect in the company's balance sheet of 2004/2005.

With its 3D Plus technology, Creative Eye is looking at another stream of revenue - not merely the release of its film and other associated releases but also by leasing the technology to other film makers and television software producers. All of that would materialise only after the filmis released.

The company has also embarked up on an English film titled, Behind the Painted Veil. The film's shooting which was to commence on December 7, 2003, has been delayed because of unvailability of dates of the main female cast.
