New Delhi , Dec. 15 THE Prime Minister, Mr A.B. Vajpayee, launched Vigyan Rail, an exhibition on wheels showcasing the technological achievements made by the country. The train, aimed at developing a scientific temper among the people, will travel to 56 cities in the next nine months. The experiment is a joint venture between the Ministries of Railways and Science and Technology. "Ours is an ancient country which has been reborn in the modern world. We want to preserve and strengthen our centuries old cultural heritage and traditional values," Mr Vajpayee said, while launching the train at the Safdarjung Railway station. The Prime Minister described the train as a "carrier of the message of India's progress in science and technology." It has 12 coaches carrying various exhibits, including scientific heritage, environment, space, communication, Information Technology, ocean development, water resources, defence, agriculture, non-conventional energy sources, health and medicine and atomic energy. The Prasar Bharati Corporation Chairman and President of Vigyan Prasar Society, Mr M.V. Kamath, suggested that the train should be sent to Pakistan as part of confidence building measures between the two neighbouring countries. "We have suggested to the Science and Technology Minister, Mr Murli Manohar Joshi, that the train be sent to Pakistan and Bangladesh. If the idea gets official consent here and the governments of Pakistan and Bangladesh also accept it, it would promote camaraderie with the neighbouring nations," said Mr Kamath.
