Oilseeds & Edible Oil Edible oil imports fall during Nov Our Bureau
Mumbai , Dec. 15 EDIBLE oil imports into the country during November 2003 were at an estimated 3,12 728 lakh tonnes (lt), down from 3,34, 428 lt in November 2002, according to the latest data prepared by the Solvent Extractors' Association of India. Out of total imports during the month, refined oil imports were at 51,530 tonnes (16 per cent), compared to nil during the same period last year. Crude oils were at 261,198 tonnes (84 per cent). Import of edible oils during the month comprised 1.90-lakh tonnes crude palm oil; 51,530 tonnes refined palmolein; 27,430 tonnes crude palmolein; 29,300 tonnes degummed soyabean oil and 10,172 tonnes sunflower oil. Palm oil products imports were at 2,73,006 tonnes constituting about 87 per cent of the total import, while soft oils imports were at 39,722 tonnes (13 per cent). Non-edible oil imports stood at 28,077 tonnes compared to 22,279 tonnes during the same month last year. Crude palm stearin, P.F.A.D. and P.K.F.A.D. are major non-edible oils being imported.
