BPCL board meet on Dec 26 to consider interim dividend

Our Bureau

Mumbai , Dec. 15

CLOSE on the heels of public sector oil companies HPCL and IOC informing the stock exchanges that their boards would meet on December 22 and 26 respectively to consider payment of interim dividend, it was the turn of BPCL on Monday.

BPCL has informed the stock exchanges that its board would meet on December 26 to consider a proposal for declaration of interim dividend for the financial year 2003-04. Analysts say that other oil and gas companies like ONGC and GAIL may also join these three oil companies to declare interim dividends.

Last year, the Union Government had collected Rs 2,687.42 crore from the oil PSUs as interim dividends to bridge the fiscal deficit gap — dividends from the financially-muscled oil companies are considered to be a "tried and tested" method of bridging the fiscal gap.
