THE All-India Printing Ink Manufacturers Association (AIPIMA) has asked the ink manufacturers to focus on new segments and launch new products, especially in the ultraviolet range, which is used for offset, flexography and screen printing.
According to Mr Ajit Lalvani, President of the association, these inks are environmental friendly and do not pose a health hazard like solvent inks.
Other potential areas of growth include use of water-based technology for flexography printing and high quality label printing, he said at golden jubilee celebration of the association here.
He pointed out that digital inks, both solvent and water-based, are at present being imported and hence this was another area where manufacturers can focus their research efforts. The Indian ink marking has been registering a steady growth, especially with outdoor advertising shifting from painted signs and billboards to high quality digitally printed media.
Mr Ajit expected that foreign direct investments would soon be allowed in the print media, which would mean more publications of magazines, books and newspapers.
He wanted the small ink manufacturers to find their own niche markets, instead of competing on price and credit.
