Telecom engineer sentenced

KOCHI: The CBI Special Judge II, Ernakulam, has sentenced Mr Murali Mohanan Nair, Sub-Divisional Engineer, Telecom, Karunagappally, to undergo rigorous imprisonment for one year and to pay a fine of Rs 25,000 for offences punishable under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The case against him is that while working as SDE at Karungagappally during May 1995 to May 1996, he submitted bogus and forged work bills in conspiracy with his brother-in-law to the Divisional Engineer purporting to have submitted by private contractors and executed works related to telecom expansion. He claimed amount from imprest amount entrusted to him by the department, a part of which he had misappropriated.
