Politics Partial response to BJP bandh in Hyderabad Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Dec. 8 THE bandh call given by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in protest against the violent incidents in the Old City of Hyderabad evoked partial response on Monday, affecting normal life and business activity in certain parts of the city. Nearly 500 BJP activists were arrested in the twin cities and areas in the Cyberabad commissionerate during the bandh. Speaking to newspersons, Prof S. Seshagiri Rao, the party's State Vice-President, and General Secretaries Mr G. Kishan Reddy and Dr K. Laxman, said: "Response to the bandh was total." Meanwhile, Mr T. Devender Goud, Minister for Home, said that the situation was peaceful. However, he added that curfew would continue in the eight police station limits till tomorrow morning. "We will review the situation and take a decision tomorrow." Some 24 riot-related cases have been booked so far. "The police took 214 rowdy-sheeters into custody on Sunday night," he added. Speaking to Business Line, Mr T. Krishna Reddy, Mayor, said that the Government was closely watching the situation. Terming the incidents as "unfortunate", he said that the Government would take stern action against those responsible for the disturbances.
