No job shifts, asserts Dell

Our Bureau

Bangalore , Nov. 25

DELL International Services on Tuesday quashed the reports that it was shifting its technical support service for customers from Bangalore to the US.

"We have not shifted any calls from India to the US," said a spokeswoman for Dell here today. "Dell International Services is committed to India and we are growing our business here," she added.

Dell International Services, a division of Dell Computer India Pvt Ltd, started its operations in Bangalore about two years ago with some 180 people and has over 3,000 people as of today working from both Bangalore and Hyderabad. "We are expanding and continue to hire," she added.

Declining to comment on the statements made by her counterpart in the US, the spokeswoman said: "we are yet to figure out how the statements came." Quoting Dell spokesman in the US, agencies had reported that Dell's business customers had complained about understanding Indian executives because of differing accents.

Sources familiar with the Dell's business model said that Dell International Services handles about 30 to 40 per cent of the overall customers' calls from India. Since Dell bears the costs of customer queries, the company often re-routes a call of a dissatisfied customer to another centre for favourable response, they added.

Industry sources said that Dell International Services was on a hiring spree and was on the verge of expanding its operations to Chandigarh. However, the company's spokeswoman declined to comment on Dell's expansion plans in Chandigarh.
