Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Finance Minister, Mr K. Sankaranarayanan, has said that the working of the Traders Welfare Fund Board will be revamped and steps initiated to expedite payment of benefits to the members.

Addressing the first meeting of the newly restructured board here, the Finance Minister said the State Government wished to maintain the best of relations with the trader community. He sought cooperation of the traders to make this happen.

The Government would also take necessary steps to rope in more members into the board. Its office would be full computerised.

A meeting of the Claims Committee would be convened within a months time to expedite decision on claims that have been pending since 1998.

Deadline for renewing membership was being extended to December 31.

An arrangement with the State Bank of Travancore (SBT) was being pursued which, when implemented, would make it possible for the members to pay up their dues through SBT branches.
