ARMED with the College of American Pathologists accredition, SRL Ranbaxy Ltd (SRL) has drawn up plans for tie-ups with leading hospital systems in the UK and West Asia.

Mr Harpal Singh, Chairman of the company, said here on Wednesday that SRL would reach out with its diagnostics expertise to overseas markets by the end of the financial year. Mr Singh was here in connection with the launch of its laboratory.

"In the UK, we are talking to three countrywide hospital systems for off-site diagnostic tests. In the West Asia, SRL would begin its off-site operation in Abu Dhabi, which will be followed by Dubai and Kuwait", Mr Singh said. Within the next three years, the company expects to cater to the US hospitals.

"Once these arrangements are established we would also like to set up on-site facilities for handling emergency tests in these overseas locations", he added.

SRL offers more than 1,000 value-added tests. In the next three years, Mr Singh said, SRL would invest around Rs 25 crore in expansion of laboratory operations.

In India, SRL operates in 275 towns through its clinical reference labs in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Mohali. It has over 500 collection centres and a nation-wide specimen pick-up system. The Kolkata lab has started with 20 collection centres.
