Cellular base crosses 19.35 million

THE cellular subscriber base in the country has crossed 19.35 million, with an addition of over 10.80 lakh customers in October 2003.

As per the latest estimates of the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), the regions in Circle A continued to account for the highest subscriber base at 70.22 lakh, followed closely by the four metros at 63.49 lakh subscribers and Circle B at 51.43 lakh subscribers. Circle C continues to be far behind at only 8.37 lakh subscribers.

Among the operators, Bharti continues to be the single largest mobile operator accounting for 48.62 lakh subscribers. Bharti is also the single largest operator in any one single circle, having bagged over 12.48 lakh customers in Delhi.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) is the second largest single operator accounting for 43.78 lakh subscribers followed by Hutchison at 33.58 lakh customers. Idea cellular is the fourth, with 19.75 lakh subscribers, followed by the BPL group with a total subscriber base of 13.33 lakh subscribers.

Amongst the operators who logged in most additions in October, BSNL leads with a tally of 3.67 lakh followed by Bharti at 2.45 lakh and Hutch at 1.35 lakh. Idea cellular could manage to add only 0.77 lakh additional customers.
