Airlines AI's Abu Dhabi station posts 10% growth in cargo, passenger traffic Vimala Vasan
Abu Dhabi , Nov. 5 AIR India's Abu Dhabi station has recorded a good performance in October compared with the same month last year, registering ten per cent growth in cargo and passenger traffic. The airline has also introduced one additional flight each on the Abu Dhabi-Kozhikode and Abu Dhabi-Thiruvananthapuram sectors in its winter schedule. Mr Bharat Chaturvedi, Air India Manager, Abu Dhabi Emirate, told Business Line that concerted efforts on the part of the airline had led to a strong growth over the past two months, despite it being a lean period. Abu Dhabi station is the fifth largest revenue earner for the airline. The airline has set a revenue target of Rs 221 crore for the current year. A major portion of the revenue is from passenger traffic, with cargo accounting for a smaller percentage of the revenue. The forthcoming Eid and Christmas holidays could see increased business for the airline, he said. In view of the strong position that Air India holds on the Abu Dhabi-Kerala sector, the airline has increased its frequency to Kozhikode from five to six flights a week, while the frequency to Thiruvanthapuram has gone up from two to three flights a week. Air India will fly a total of 21 flights a week out of Abu Dhabi to India, including three flights to Delhi, five to Mumbai, three to Kochi and one flight to Kozhikode. The airline also plans to launch from December 15, two weekly flights to Shanghai from Mumbai to New Delhi. On the same day, it will also increase its frequency to New Jersey, while its flights to Chicago will increase from three to six a week. Air India's 31 aircraft fleet strength currently includes 19 aircraft owned by the airline and 12 that have been leased out.
