Railways Inspection of Kankanady-Kabakaputtur rly line Our Bureau
MANGALORE: The Commissioner of Railway Safety, Mr P.K. Sen, will hold a statutory inspection of the Kankanady-Kabakaputtur route on the Hassan-Mangalore railway line on November 10 and 11. Motor trolley inspection will be held on November 10 and trial run (speed trial) will begin from Kabakaputtur on November 11. Passenger trains could be run on the track after the Commissioner certifies it. Sources in the Railways said that the route is likely to be opened for passenger traffic in the third week of November. With the opening of this stretch, a part of gauge conversion between Mangalore and Hassan will be completed. Work on the Hassan-Sakleshpur route has already been completed. Nearly Rs 275 crore has been spent on Hassan-Mangalore railway line, and the stretch is likely to be opened for passenger traffic by December 2004. The 44-km-long Kankanady-Kabakaputtur route has six stations. Sources added that nearly Rs 55 crore has been spent on this route. The 42-km-long Kabakaputtur-Subrahmanya route is likely to be inaugurated by May 2004, while the 43-km-long Subrahmanya-Sakleshpura route is to be opened by December 2004.
