The Hindu Business Line : Talks on river-linking still on

HYDERABAD: Almost all the riparian States in the country have agreed to the proposal for interlinking of rivers. Talks with Kerala in this regard were still being continued, according to Mr Suresh Prabhu, Chairman of the Task Force on Interlinking of Rivers.

Interacting with the faculty members of the National Institute of Rural Development here, Mr Prabhu emphasised that interlinking of rivers would lead to optimum utilisation of water resources apart from enhancing the power generation capacity. Such a measure would help in harnessing the floodwaters, which now flow into the sea.

According to a NIRD press release, Mr Prabhu also stressed the need for exploring the scope of water harvesting measures and ensuring people's participation at all levels.
