Madurai , Nov. 3

THE Potential-Linked Credit Plan for the Tirunelveli district, prepared by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) envisages for 2004-05 a sum of Rs 564.62 crore.

The plan has allocated Rs 369.72 crore for the primary sector. The secondary and tertiary sectors have been allotted Rs 74.90 crore and Rs 120 crore respectively.

According to Mr K. Sridharan, Assistant General Manager, Nabard, the integrated wasteland development and watershed development programmes implemented in the district is estimated to add 3,350 hectares of land to the existing cultivable area.

Efforts are being made to provide assistance for rural markets, jointly identified by the Nabard and the DRDA, mainly to help farmers.
