CII to discuss ways to market Indian films abroad

Mumbai , Nov. 3

THE Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will host `CineMint: A fresh look at film marketing' here on November 21-22 to focus on the mechanics and benefits of marketing films to international audiences. The two-day summit, which will include discussions on marketing strategy, sales and acquisitions, and film festivals and international markets, is aimed at increasing awareness of the importance of marketing, and to point filmmakers in the direction of effective marketing abroad, according to Mr Shravan Shroff, Event Chairman & CEO, Shringar Cinemas.

"At a time when Indian cinema stands poised to influence the global film arena, filmmakers need to develop and understand the importance of marketing for their movies," Mr Shroff added. "There's obviously a lot of money to be made internationally, and there are many filmmakers who want to make films for the overseas markets and bring in the big bucks." But there is a big gap between how films are marketed in India, and how they are marketed abroad; at the same time, there is also a growing interest in distributing Indian films abroad, and more Indian filmmakers are willing to experiment, so the summit will provide them an exposure to proven western sales and marketing practices that help films make that crossover, said a spokesperson for CII.
