Off-shore Development Infovista to set up centre in Kochi Our Bureau
Thiruvananthapuram , Oct. 26 INFOVISTA, the California-based IT giant, will soon set up its Global Delivery Centre in the Cochin Infopark. This is the outcome of discussions the high-level delegation led by the State IT Secretary, Ms Aruna Sundararajan, had with promoters of Infovista at GITEX 2003 in Dubai. GITEX is the premier IT and communications exposition in the Middle East held every year. It featured over 1,500 companies from more than 37. For starters, Infovista will invest $200,000 in its Cochin centre, the first of several such to be opened in various IT hubs around the world. From here, the company proposes to outsource IT-enabled services to its major clients in the US, the Gulf region, Europe and Australia. Over the next 5 years, Infovista will invest a total of $4,000,000 for setting up Global Delivery Centres, according to Mr Sameer Khan, President. Earlier, the IT Secretary had made a presentation to select CEOs in Dubai and reiterated the State Government's commitment to the industry. According to her, the State had come forward with an investor friendly policy and regulatory framework. The State was home to one of the highly ranked IT Parks, namely, Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram, where Infosys was among the latest to commit investments. Infosys expected to start operations from a 55,000-sq. ft. area by November 14. Another major initiative of the State IT Mission, the official implementing agency, is the new Infopark coming up in Kochi. Construction of the 2-lakh sq. ft building is progressing quickly and will be ready for occupation by May 2004. Tie-up with UAE: In another development at GITEX, the State Government and the UAE administration agreed to collaborate in higher education and scientific research. The prospects for large-scale UAE investments in Kerala were explored and agreed upon during the discussions the IT Secretary had with Mr Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister for Higher Education & Scientific Research, and the grandson of the ruler of Dubai. "Our mission at GITEX was to project Kerala as the emerging new destination with immense prospects for business process outsourcing and software services," said Ms Sundararajan. "The UAE authorities are happy with the IT infrastructural facilities available in Kerala."
