New Delhi , Sept. 27

IN an attempt to attract more tourists from the Gulf region, the Minister for Tourism and Culture, Mr Jagmohan, is leading a high-powered delegation to Bahrain in December this year.

"The delegation is to include the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and the Tourism Ministers of several states, including Himachal Pradesh," Mr Jagmohan said at a press conference after inaugurating the Fifth International Travel and Tourism Mart here.

The delegation, Mr Jagmohan said, will try and educate the young people in the region on what facilities are available in India. The Minister pointed out that the various initiatives taken by the Government in the tourism sector were beginning to yield results.

"International tourist arrivals have increased by 14 per cent in numbers and 16 per cent in terms of foreign exchange earnings compared to the previous year. But what is more encouraging is that the number of people travelling within the country is increasing and has gone up by three crore in one year," he said.

The three-day mart is being attended by representatives of about 19 States.

Besides, a host of airlines, hotels and tour operators are also participating in the conference.
