Hyderabad , Sept. 18

AS part of the Rs 60-crore renovation plan at the Taj Krishna hotel, Taj Hotels, Resorts and Palaces relaunched the `Grand Ballroom' with an outlay of Rs 6 crore.

Besides having a lavish ambience with Italian marble, Czech chandeliers and specially-designed carpets from Badouni, the 6,600-square feet hall provides modern facilities including video-conferencing service, wireless Internet connectivity and soundproof partitions, Mr Veer Vijay Singh, Area Director of Taj GVK, said.

"We spent Rs 35 crore on sprucing up public places in the 11-acre hotel in the first phase, while allocating Rs 10 crore for the second phase. The third phase, which includes the Rs 6-crore renovation of the ballroom, will see refurbishment of first and second floors. We, however, will take that up next year," he told newspersons.

"The Grand Ballroom, two Pearl conference rooms, the 10,000-sq ft Deccan halls and the lawns make us an international conference and banqueting destination," Mr Singh said.

The Taj-GVK is targeting a turnover of Rs 44 crore this year as against Rs 35.30 crore last year.

"In the first five months of the current fiscal, the hotel recorded an occupancy rate of 78 per cent against 70 per cent for the whole of last year. We could achieve this despite the fallout of 9/11, December 13 incidents and adverse advisories," he said.
