Mumbai Sept. 8

A 15-member trade delegation from the State of Washington, led by Mr Sam Reed, Secretary of State, visited Mumbai on Monday as part of its programme to contribute to increasing trade between India and the Washington State. This is the first US business delegation to visit India after the 9/11 attacks.

The delegation, which includes representatives from Washington, city councils, ports and industry, is scheduled to visit New Delhi and Bangalore also.

Known as a technology and science centre with an economy focussed on industries of the future, the State of Washington is home to industry leaders in sectors such as aerospace, computer software bio-technology and telecommunication.

Talking to presspersons, Mr Reed said there was immense potential for further development of trade between India and the Washington State, especially in sectors such as bio-technology, telecommunication and medical equipment.
