Tea Dusts in demand at Kochi auction Our Bureau
Kochi , Aug. 24 A MIXED trend persisted for almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction. Though the dust sale witnessed a good general demand, it was comparatively low for leaf varieties. Of the quantity of 8,72,000 on offer in the dust category, good liquoring CTC barely steady. Others lower, while orthodox remained steady. The best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 46 and Rs 70, medium CTC realised Rs 40-43 and poorer type were quoted Rs 26-30. Highgrown BOPD fetched prices between Rs 48 and Rs 111, while secondaries were quoted Rs 27. The leaf sale witnessed only a less general demand and the quantity on offer was 391,000 kg. Orthodox well-made clean teas steady, others lower. The sale was difficult for poorer teas, while CTCs tended to ease. CIS shippers and other exporters were selective following quality on Orthodox grades. The best Nilgiri varieties commanded prices between Rs 40 and Rs 64, medium orthodox realised Rs 32-46 and plain orthodox were quoted Rs 25-28. The best CTC leaf fetched prices between Rs 39 and Rs 43, while medium CTC leaf realised Rs 32-36. In the dust category, Kodanad CL-BOPD fetched the best prices of Rs 111 followed by Havukal BOPD by Rs 100. In the leaf varieties, Kodanad BOPF-CL realised the best prices of Rs 92, folowed by Havukal BOPF by Rs 84.
