Telecommunications TRAI sets 60 days for deposit refund after disconnection Our Bureau
New Delhi , Aug. 22 THE Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has set a timeframe of 60 days for service providers to refund the security deposits after disconnection by the subscribers. According to an official statement, this follows several complaints from subscribers stating that service providers are taking a long time to refund security deposit after disconnection of the telephone. "The authority examined the issue and discussions were also held with telecom operators. It also considered the prevalent Department of Telecommunication (DoT) norms regarding the time frame for refund of security deposit. After due consideration of all the relevant facts, it has decided a time frame of 60 days within which service providers shall effect refund of the security deposit after adjustment of dues, if any, from the subscribers. The authority has also decided that the service providers shall pay interest at the rate of 10 per cent annum for the delayed period beyond 60 days", the statement notes.
