Telecommunications BPL, Hutch in pact for MMS Our Bureau
MUMBAI: Cellular service operators, BPL Mobile and Hutch, have signed an inter-operability agreement for multimedia messaging services (MMS). Subscribers of both services can now exchange multimedia messages across Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata, as well as Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, a joint release from the companies said. Before this agreement, subscribers had to send images or video clips to e-mail IDs of recipients and not directly to each other. According to Mr Sandip Das, CEO, Hutchison Max India and Hutchison Essar South, MMS usage on the Hutch network has been growing at 33 per cent month on month. Mr Krishna Angara, COO, BPL Mobile, said that inter-operability which allowed SMS usage to double and triple will also help bring about a similar revolution in MMS.
