Anti-dumping Dumping duty imposed on non-brass metal flashlights from China K.R. Srivats
New Delhi , Aug. 18 IMPORTERS of non-brass metal flashlights from China may now be compelled to fork out higher prices for such items, with the Finance Ministry imposing a definitive anti-dumping duty on all imports of non-brass metal flashlights from that country. A definitive anti-dumping duty, unless reviewed, usually lasts for five years. Eveready Industries had filed the petition seeking anti-dumping probe on behalf of the domestic industry. The latest move of the revenue department comes on the back of the recommendation of the Designated Authority in the Commerce Ministry, which held that a definitive anti-dumping duty be imposed on non-brass metal flashlights from China. In its final findings, the Designated Authority had observed that imports of non-brass metal flashlights from China had suppressed the prices of the same product in the Indian market to such an extent that the industry was prevented from recovering its full cost of production and earn a reasonable profit.
