I-T staff strike work to protest outsourcing

Our Bureau

Bangalore , Aug.18

INCOME-Tax employees went on a 24-hour hunger strike today to protest against work being outsourced to outside agencies.

A spokesperson for Income-Tax Employees Federation told Business Line that the Government had gone back on its assurance that no work would be outsourced. But the Government later decided to outsource the data entry work connected with the processing of the returns.

The spokesperson said that though the decision was based on saving costs, it was being carried out free of charge by the department. Hence, there was no need to outsource work.

The spokesperson said even the recommendation of the fifth pay commission to revise the salaries of income-tax inspectors and officers and tax assistants had not been carried out.
