Industry & Economy - Anti-dumping

Vitamin-C imports come under dumping duty

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Aug. 11

VITAMIN-C (ascorbic acid) imports from the US and Canada would now attract a definitive anti-dumping duty. The definitive anti-dumping duty imposed by the Finance Ministry, unless reviewed, is expected to last for five years.

Based on the recommendations of the Designated Authority in the Commerce Ministry, the Revenue Department has imposed a definitive anti-dumping duty equivalent to the difference between $10.11 per kg and the "landed value" per kg of Vitamin-C imports from the US and Canada.

Industry sources held that the imposition of definitive anti-dumping duty on Vitamin-C imports from these two countries would come as a relief to Sarabhai M Chemicals, a unit of Ambalal Sarabhai Enterprises, Baroda (Gujarat), which had petitioned the Designated Authority on behalf of the domestic industry.
