Zee Interactive enters play school segment

Rina Chandran

Mumbai , Aug. 3

ZEE Interactive Learning Systems Ltd (ZILS), a fully owned subsidiary of Zee Telefilms Ltd, has made a foray into the pre-primary education segment with Kidzee, a play group, nursery and activity centre. Kidzee will cater to children in the age group 2-4 years (play group and nursery) and children from the age of 2 years upwards (activity centre). The centre's curriculum will emphasise all-round development - cognitive, physical, social and sensorial - and the material will also be culture-specific, said Mr Arun Kumar Khetan, CEO, ZILS.

"There is so much peer pressure today, and the environment is extremely competitive, so parents want facilities such as these for their children and even schools want kids from a good play group," he said. "So there is a need for a centre like this. But because there is no national player, there is no consistency, which we will bring in with uniform standards."

ZILS, formed in 1999, aims to create a learning network and deliver education content and solutions through various mediums such as ground learning centres, multimedia, Internet, V-SAT based platforms, television and e-learning for academic institutions and corporates. ZILS now has 225 ground learning centres.

"We will be very selective about the franchisees: we will check their background and their profile carefully," Mr Khetan said.
