Education Trivandrum International School opens doors Our Bureau
Thiruvananthapuram , Aug 3 TRIVANDRUM International School (Trins), the State's first international school with an international curriculum, faculty, infrastructure and a proven academic delivery mode, has commenced operations on the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram. The foundation stone for the Rs 20-crore project, the first project for which a memorandum of understanding was signed under the Global Investors' Meet (GIM), was laid by the Chief Minister, Mr A.K. Antony, on September 16 last year. Seventy-six students and 23 faculty members have already enrolled and classes have commenced. The entire academic infrastructure is more or less in place; the swimming pool and other sports facilities will be ready before the end of this month, according to Mr G. Vijayaraghavan, Honorary Director. Mr George Thomas, an NRI from the Sultanate of Oman, is the main promoter. A governing body of eminent professionals from around the country has been set up to look after the day-to-day affairs. The students from kindergarten till Class 8 hail from Thiruvananthapuram and other parts of Kerala and outside. Some of them have been raised abroad, including place such as the US, the UK, Switzerland, Columbia, Thailand, Singapore, Sultanate of Oman, the UAE, Kuwait and Maldives. The school offers ICSE and British `O' levels up to Class 10 and will also offer the ISC and British `A' levels in Classes 11 and 12. It also plans to offer the International Baccalaureate in Classes 11 and 12. According to Mr Vijayaraghavan, the school has succeeded in attracting a fine group of professionals from India and abroad with teaching experience in reputed schools in London, Hong Kong, Amman, Abu Dhabi, Colombo, Montreal, Jakarta, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Ooty, Chennai, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram. Some of the features distinguishing Trins from others are a high teacher- student ratio of 1:6, strong comprehensive tutoring that helps students do without private tuitions, music, dance, theatre, painting and public speaking sessions, sports facilities for a number of disciplines such as swimming, cricket, football, basketball and tennis, excellent boarding facilities, in-house nutritionist, visiting medical practitioner and unique evaluation systems.
