Jacob Kurian quitting Tanishq, Tata group

Boby Kurian

Bangalore , July 24

MR Jacob Kurian, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Tanishq, the branded jewellery division of Titan Industries, is quitting. Mr Kurian has put in his papers to follow a career outside the Tata Group.

Mr Bhaskar Bhat, Managing Director of Titan Industries Ltd, confirmed that Mr Kurian was leaving the company. "He is moving on in life and wants to pursue a new career," he said. "I will look after the operations of the jewellery division for the time being," Mr Bhat added, while replying to a query on the successor to Mr Kurian.

"Tanishq is now a full-fledged division with teams in place for manufacturing, marketing and sales. There are many capable hands in the team, which is on a high, and they have an approved five-year business plan before them," Mr Bhat said. Explaining that Titan has seen many high-profile exits in the course of its successful existence, he added that Mr Kurain's exit must be viewed in the context of the stability Tanishq as a business has achieved.

In May 2000, Titan's former Managing Director, Mr Xerxes Desai, brought Mr Kurian, who was earlier with the company's watch business, into Tanishq.
